What Volleyball Looks Like In British Columbia
Volleyball in British Columbia is rapidly growing. There are many opportunities for athletes to play volleyball whether it be through clinics, their school, or joining a club team. There are many volleyball opportunities that are missed because athletes are unaware of what is available to them. There are many opportunities for athletes to play all year round.
Volleyball BC
Volleyball BC is a provincial non-profit sport organization. Volleyball BC is well known for running tournaments and specifically provincials. They have many positions to get involved with volleyball whether it be through playing, coaching, or even refereeing. There are always camps and clinics being held throughout the fall and winter. Summertime favorites held by Volleyball BC are their beach volleyball clinics and tournaments. Beach volleyball is a great way to get extra touches. Volleyball BC offers a lot of programs for adults as well. They have grass, beach, and indoor programs that all offer camps, clinics, and tournaments.
School Volleyball
The school volleyball season runs from September to December. Schools are divided based on the number of eligible students in each grade. For girls, division A means there are 65 or fewer girls in grades 11-12m, AA means there are 66-160 girls, AAA means there are 161- 250 girls, AAAA means there are 251 girls or more. For boys division AAA means 226 or more boys in grades 11 and 12, AA means 81-225 boys, and A means 80 or fewer boys. Games are played in zones based on location of the schools. The BC School Sports Association is a group of teachers and administrators that help organize the games. There are approximately 450 member schools every year, and around 90 000 student-athletes participating.
Club Volleyball
Club volleyball season starts in January and ends around May. There are approximately 700 athletes ages u14- u18 that are registered with a club team. There are more than 60 available club teams to choose from. These club teams range from the Kootenays to Vancouver. If you are looking for which club teams are near you Volleyball BC has a list.
